Phuket City
Phuket City is the capital of Phuket Province, which encompasses the whole island as well as a few outlying islets. The town has historical buildings of Sino-Portuguese architecture dating back to the 19th century, when it was the hub for tin-mining activities on the island. Some of the townhouses are similar to those that you would find elsewhere in Thailand and even Malaysia.
Phuket City, interestingly, is predominantly Chinese, particularly Hokkien. Many of them have relatives in Penang, with which the island maintain close links.
