Koh Tapu, also written Ko Tapu and Ko Tapoo, is one of the most renowned islands in Thailand. It is located at Phang Nga Bay. Many people knew it as James Bond Island, though to be exact, that name belongs to another island, Koh Khao Phing Kan.
There is a story how Koh Tapu got its name. Once upon a time, there was a fisherman who fished at Phang Nga Bay. He usually caught a lot of fish, but one day, as he cast his net out and drew them back, there was not a single fish. Instead, he found a rusty old nail in his net. The fisherman threw the nail back into the sea. Then he cast his net again.
When he drew his net, once again there was no fish in the net. And once again, the rusty old nail was in his net. In a fury, the fisherman hit the nail with his knife. The nail was driven into the sit, but its head sticks out of the water. And there it remains to this day, in the form of Nail Island.
Getting there
You don't actually step foot on Koh Tapu, as there is no shore to land, rather you can only view it from Koh Khao Phing Kan.
