Bang Pae Waterfall is the largest waterfall in Phuket. There is a pool at the base of the falls which is great for a refreshing dip on a hot day. The Bang Pae Waterfalls is especially popular with the Thais. When I was there, I see some local boys having a picnic. Some were displaying their prowess by making somersaults into the water. The water comes down like a curtain over the rocks, especially when captured under a slow shutter speed.

Getting there

Bang Pae Waterfall is located in Khao Pra Taew Wildlife Reserve, on the northeast part of Phuket Island, close to the Two Heroines Monument. From the monument at Thepkasattri Road, take the exit heading east (Paklok Road or Route 4027).

After about 9kms there is a left turn next to an elephant trekking camp. You are now entering the wildlife reserve. You will have to pay an entrance fee to the National Park Wldlife and Plant Conservation Department to proceed. After about 1 km, you will reach the parking area for Bang Pae Waterfall.

From the parking area, the waterfall is another 10 minute's hike up the forest trail. As you climb up the trail, you can see the river running downstream to your left. Eventually you arrive at the waterfall, which is enclosed on both sides by sheer cliffs.
